Our Guest Speaker: 

Reverend Jim Hightower has been ordained with the  Assemblies of God for 45 years serving in various capacities as Senior Pastor, Presbyter,  and military chaplain.  Following pastoral ministry in his home state of Mississippi,  Jim was commissioned as chaplain in the US Navy and retired from active duty in 2013 in the rank of Captain. During his 28 years of Naval service he provided ministry to Sailors, Marines, and their families in numerous settings stateside and overseas including ships of the Atlantic fleet,  shore stations, chapels, and over 15 years in support of the US Marine Corps.  He deployed to Iraq with the US Marines in 2003 and 2004 and provided extensive ministry to Marines and Sailors engaged in combat operations.  His final assignments in the Navy included service in Washington, DC where he led team efforts developing and implementing Chaplain ministry policies and procedures for 21st century sea services operations.  He is the 2006 receipeint of the Chief of Navy Chaplains Servant Leadership Award in recognition of professional leadership, excellence in ministry and empowering ministry in others.  Jim holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Southeastern University, Masters of Divinity from Erskine Theological Seminary, & Master of Arts from Princeton Theological Seminary.  The Hightowers returned to Georgia in 2014 where Jim served as interim pastor of Lyons Faith Assembly of God 2016-2017 and subsequently guided the congregation in selection of a new pastor with whom he continues to enjoy a mentoring & support relationship.  Jim and his wife Libby also conduct extensive travel in ministry to veterans and their families and as a frequent guest speaker in both church and civic settings.  They live on a 132 acre farm restoring the land and farmhouse where Libby spent her childhood
